The information that follows should be considered when selecting a pressure gauge for any installation, new or replacement. If you have any questions regarding a specific application or installation, do not hesitate to give us a call.

Warning: Pressure gauges must be selected and installed so that the possibility of failure resulting in injury of damage caused by misuse or misapplication is minimized. Personnel responsible for selection and installation should read ASME B40.1 which is available from ASME, 345 47th Street, NY, NY 10017. The most important factors which must be considered in selecting the proper gauge are as follows:

• Pressure: The range of the gauge should be approximately twice the intended operation pressure. Avoid applying pressure beyond the top of the scale.


• Vibration: Excessive vibration could cause movement wear resulting in loss of accuracy. The gauge should be isolated from the source of vibration, or a liquid filled gauge should be used.


• Pulsation: Excessive pressure pulsation, usually evidenced by continuous rapid pointer oscillation, could result in fatigue failure of the pressure element, or rapid movement wear. A pulsation dampening device and a liquid filled gauge should be considered.


• Temperature: Excessive temperature could result in long term creep of soldered joints, and possibly eventual failure. Maximum recomend operation (ambient) temperature is 150° F.


• Process: Materials of pressure containing parts and joints must be resistant to the process fluid. A different pressure element material, or a diaphragm seal may be required.

Gauges used on high pressure gas, or on potentially hazardous services such as oxygen, should be carefully selected in accordance with the recommendations of ASME B40.1. Use aluminum socket gauges on air or oil only. For additional information contact the manufacturer.
